A Nathan’s Famous hot dog eating contest comes to Coors Field
There are plenty of things a person could do for 10 minutes on a mid-May Saturday in Denver: walk to Coors Field from Union Station, wait in line for a beer at the stadium, or attempt to eat 74 hot dogs and buns in front of a crowd.
If the latter is your jam, well, it’s too late now to sign up for the 2019 Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest qualifier. But it’s not too late to attend the spectacle and watch a dozen or so Colorado speed eaters stuff their faces in all seriousness.
The fastest male and female eaters in Colorado will each win a spot at the holiday hot dog eating internationals next to the likes of Joey Chestnut, of San Jose, Calif., who inhaled 74 dogs at last year’s event; and Miki Sudo, of Las Vegas, who ingested 37 dogs and took home the 2018 women’s championship title.
“The Nathan’s hot dog eating contest is a holiday celebration that is recognized across the globe,” Major League Eating chair George Shea said in a release. “There is no greater honor on July 4 than competing against the greatest eaters in the world on the big stage in Coney Island.”
Isn’t there, though?
The qualifier will start at 5 p.m. on May 11 at Coors Field. For more information on the competition, head here. The Rockies play the Padres that day at 6:10 p.m. Fans will need a ticket to the baseball game to view the hot dog eating contest.
