Colorado-based sandwich shop Cheba Hut is biting back in response to a promotion this week at Denver’s original Quiznos restaurant.
Cheba Hut owner Scott Jennings, known for his anti-establishment attitude and pot-themed subs, said he’s sending Quiznos a cease-and-desist letter for one so-called “magic mushroom melt” that the store is serving only on Saturday and only on Denver’s Logan Street.
“All these people are chasing trends, right?” Jennings told The Know on Friday. “We don’t chase trends over here, we like to say we make trends.”
Cheba Hut’s magic mushroom sandwich, made with grilled portobello mushrooms, pepper jack cheese, green peppers, pineapples and teriyaki glaze, has been on the restaurant’s menu since 2003, according to Jennings.
“It’s a damn good sandwich, too,” he said, adding that he’d like to see a head-to-head competition between the two.
Quiznos’ melt is made with white button mushrooms and, based on an advertisement, what appears to be bread with food coloring on top. How appetizing each looks is for you to decide.
