Brace yourselves for the start of a reason-to-drink-every-weekend season. With the opening of outdoor patios, spring and summer festivals, even Mother’s Day upon us, you’ll likely be thinking of cold beers and salt-rimmed margaritas.
On Sunday, the party gets started around Denver for Cinco de Mayo. These 10 restaurants, bars and street parties are offering tequila tastings and bottomless drinks and also some sustenance.
Cinco de Mayo Celebrate Culture Festival
Location: Civic Center
When: May 4-5, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
Unique events at this annual festival include a taco eating contest and the super-adorable chihuahua race. See also three stages and performances from Funkiphino to a Zumba fitness class.
Miami Vice Party
Location: Dos Santos, 1475 E. 17th Ave.
When: May 5, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
Get ready for $4 al pastor tacos, $5 choco tacos and $8 pomegranate mint margaritas. If you dress up like Miami Vice, and take a picture in the photo booth, you’ll be entered to win a $200 gift card.
Centro Cinco de Mayo
Location: Centro Mexican Kitchen, 950 Pearl St., Boulder
When: May 5, 10 a.m.- 9 p.m., 2-4 p.m. for the tasting table
Head to Boulder’s Centro between 2 and 4 p.m. if you want free tastes of Cuentacuentos mezcal. Otherwise, find a $5 holiday drink and snack menu all day long.
Cinco de Mayo at Lola
Location: Lola Coastal Mexican, 1575 Boulder St.
When: May 5, brunch from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and dinner from 3-9 p.m.
The 5th at Lola in LoHi will start out with brunch specials and continue into the evening with live music, mariachi karaoke and trivia. To drink, there will be tequila bloody Marys with grilled shrimp and $5 Cazadores cocktails.
Masters of Margarita
Location: Comida at Stanley Marketplace, 2501 Dallas St.
When: May 5, 11 a..m.-9 p.m.
$2 tequila shots, $5 margaritas and $10 taco “trifectas” will be on special throughout the day Sunday. See also patio piñatas for the kids.
Location: Tamayo, 1400 Larimer St.
When: May 4, 6-9 p.m., and May 5, 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and 5-10 p.m.
A Saturday night party on the terrace with $22 Corona buckets kicks off at 6 p.m. On Sunday, brunch is bottomless, at $39 for all you can eat and drink or $25 for all you can eat only.
Fiesta para la Familia
Location: Denver Performing Arts Complex Galleria and Boettcher Concert Hall
When: May 5, noon- 2 p.m. followed by a 2:30 p.m. concert
Cost: Pre-show free to attend, show tickets $10-$27
A Garibaldi Plaza celebration is free to attend before the ticketed concert starts. See mariachi and folklorico performers alongside food carts and beverages.
Kachina Cinco de Mayo
Location: Kachina Cantina, 1890 Wazee St.
When: May 4 and 5, 11 a.m.-close
Go for the free cocktail shakers at Kachina Cantina in Dairy Block on Sunday. The first 50 drinkers to order a Dolce Vida cocktail on Saturday or Sunday will get one.
Cerveceria Colorado’s First Anniversary
Location: Cerveceria Colorado, 1635 Platte St.
When: May 4, 11 a.m.-midnight
The brewery’s first birthday party comes in time for Cinco de Mayo (but a day earlier, stay with us). Mexican games and food trucks, a tres leches cake, street corn, churros, piñatas and a photo booth will all be there, as will piña colada beers and tequila barrel-aged ones.
Battle of Puebla Cinco de Mayo Celebration
Location: Dos Luces brewery, 1236 S. Broadway
When: May 3, 1-10 p.m.; May 4, noon-10 p.m.; and May 5, noon-9 p.m.
Corn-based chicha and pulque are the brews to try at this South Broadway spot. Over Cinco de Mayo weekend, they’re tapping an 8% ABV Moctezuma III Imperial Pulque, made from fermented maguey sap.
