Cosmo’s Pizza on The Hill in Boulder closing permanently

Those nights of stumbling on The Hill for a large slice of pizza with a side of spicy ranch are coming to an end.

Cosmo’s Pizza is closing its Boulder location at 1325 Broadway after 20 years of serving slices, the shop said on social media. The pizzeria will light up its oven for the last time Oct. 10.

“All good things must come to an end,” Cosmo’s management wrote on Facebook. “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the permanent closing of our Hill location on October 10. The building that houses our Hill location is being torn down for new construction. The Hill has been our home since the beginning of Cosmo’s in 2001. Stay tuned for more updates and countdown with us as we say, ‘goodbye’ to the Hill.”

The building that houses this Cosmo’s is just across from the University of Colorado’s campus. Over the last several years, the area has been subject to plans for redevelopment, including a long-discussed hotel.

“I can remember more nights than I could probably count, where me, friends and family would get together after doing something and everybody would always go to Cosmo’s,” Boulder native Ethan Rosen said. “If we had a basketball game, if we went out to hang out with friends, it was almost like its own outing.”

Cosmo’s has several other locations, including two more in Boulder. The Hill location has long been a favorite among CU students and locals, with pizzas being freshly baked until after last call.

“It comes with a heavy heart; it’s just like a somber feeling,” Rosen said. “I know that this isn’t all of the Cosmo’s locations, but this one meant a lot. For the Boulder community and the CU community, there’s just a sense of loss of in this.”
